Public Inquiry Update

The Planning Inspector who conducted the Public Inquiry to hear ScottishPower’s appeal against refusal of planning permission to expand the Carland Cross wind farm has allowed the appeal and granted planning permission.  His 26-page report on the Appeal Decision can be seen at Cornwall Council or by clicking here.

The RATS Steering Group is disappointed at the Inspector’s decision and will consider what further action to take once members have studied the Appeal Decision report.

On shore wind turbines
cause serious problems for our communities and countryside, and are inefficient and poor value for our taxpayers’ money.  There are better forms of low-carbon energy in helping the UK resolve its more fundamental energy problems so RATS opposes onshore wind turbines generally and those at Carland Cross specifically.

ScottishPower has applied to 'overhaul' the Carland Cross wind farm by more than doubling the height of turbines to 100 metres (328 feet) and trebling the area with a completely new second site including service roads and other infrastructure over Newlyn Downs and adjacent farm land.

The aim of our wind farm action group website is to inform you about wind energy to help you decide whether the Carland Cross wind farm should be ‘overhauled’. We live in a democracy and your views and vote will count.
